Proverbs 18:21 Death and life are in the power of the tongue,
And those who love it will eat its fruit. For those who are Christians, do you remember when the Lord spoke in Deuteronomy 30 :19 I call heaven and earth as witnesses today against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing; therefore choose life, that both you and your descendants may live; Many would say that they would choose life, but have they really? The opening scripture was placed there for a reason. The old man is death and speaks death, but the new man speaks life.
A couple of weeks ago, the Lord gave me another life verse. These life verses that He gives transforms you. The verse He gave me was Romans 8:2 For the law of the Spirit of LIFE in Christ Jesus has made me free from the law of sin and DEATH. When you examine this verse, we see that life is in the spirit and sin is death. You are the one who gets to choose life in the spirit or death is of the flesh which is sin. You can’t live in both. Jesus told us that; John 6:63 It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing. The words that I speak to you are spirit, and they are life. Also, Paul reiterated his point as he spoke a little further down in Romans 8 by writing; Romans 8:10 And if Christ is in you, the body is dead because of sin, but the Spirit is life because of righteousness.
When we speak life into situations that arise, we are agreeing with Jesus. He spoke life in everything. Even the Pharisees who were coming against Him, He was trying to give them life, but they refused it. Every situation in your life gives you the great privilege to choose which way you will go, life or death. You understand that the Israelites who were to go into the promise land, only two spoke life. Because only two of the twelve spoke life and the congregation agreed with the ten who chose death, they got to spend 40 years in the wilderness and never got to see the promise land, only their children did.
This speaking life is a transformation of the way you think. That is why it is written, Romans 12:1 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service. 2 And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God. We are to be transformed by the renewing of our mind, but this transformation is not of the flesh, or carnal mind, but of the spirit. Ephesians 4:23 and be renewed in the spirit of your mind. Many don’t realize that to carnally minded is death, but spiritually minded is life and peace. Romans 8:6 For the mind set on the flesh is death, but the mind set on the Spirit is life and peace. Now you know why there is a battle for you to come into agreement with either the flesh (death) or the spirit (life). Our minds are to be focused on heavenly things, not earthly things. Colossians 3:1 If then you were raised with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ is, sitting at the right hand of God. 2 Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth. 3 For you died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. I have heard people speak death to this by saying that you would be so heavenly minded that you are no earthly good. i guess they have forgotten the first part of the Lord’s prayer. Matthew 6:9 In this manner, therefore, pray: Our Father in heaven, Hallowed be Your name. 10 Your kingdom come. Your will be done On earth as it is in heaven. If you are praying for God’s will to be done, then you are praying from heaven to here on earth, if you believe you are seated with Him in heavenly places.
We recognize that we have the great honor to speak life, or speak death. We get to choose from whom we are listening to as out the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks. Where do you live from, your flesh or your spirit?
