Who are you imitating/ You are either imitating the devil or Jesus. Doubt and unbelief are imitating the devil. I want to show you ten times in the scriptures that we are to imitate Christ. We are to be a reflection of Him. “You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.” “This is the message which we have heard from Him and declare to you, that God is light and in Him is no darkness at all. If we say that we have fellowship with Him, and walk in darkness (sin), we lie and do not practice the truth. But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin.”
Let us look at the ten times mentioned in the scriptures regarding imitating Christ.
John 14:12 Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do he will do also; and greater works than these he will do, because I go to My Father.
1 Corinthians 11:1 Imitate me, just as I also imitate Christ.
1 Corinthians 4:16 Therefore I urge you, imitate me.
Ephesians 5:1 Therefore be imitators of God as dear children.
Philippians 3:17 Brethren, join in following my example, and note those who so walk, as you have us for a pattern.
Hebrews 6:11 And we desire that each one of you show the same diligence to the full assurance of hope until the end, 12 that you do not become sluggish, but imitate those who through faith and patience inherit the promises.
Hebrews 13:7 Remember those who rule over you, who have spoken the word of God to you, whose faith follow, considering the outcome of their conduct.
1 John 2:6 He who says he abides in Him ought himself also to walk just as He walked.
3 John 1:11 Beloved, do not imitate what is evil, but what is good. He who does good is of God, but he who does evil has not seen God.
2 Timothy 3:10 But you have carefully followed my doctrine, manner of life, purpose, faith, longsuffering, love, perseverance, 11 persecutions, afflictions, which happened to me at Antioch, at Iconium, at Lystra––what persecutions I endured. And out of them, all the Lord delivered me.
As you looked at those scriptures, whose faith are you following? In the early church, those who imitated Christ were called Christians, Christ-like ones. “And when he had found him, he brought him to Antioch. So it was that for a whole year, they assembled with the church and taught a great many people. And the disciples were first called Christians in Antioch.” If the churches today imitate Christ, then they are following His faith. “For you, brethren, became imitators of the churches of God which are in Judea in Christ Jesus. For you also suffered the same things from your own countrymen, just as they did from the Judeans.”
I pray that the eyes of your understanding be enlightened to imitate Christ. When we do, we are following Him. Be blessed, my friends.
