The fear of the Lord is mentioned 27 times in the Bible. Sometimes it’s mentioned in the context of fear where people are afraid. In other contexts, the fear of the Lord is in reverence. Most importantly for the followers of Jesus, the fear of the Lord was and is His delight. The fear of the lord is a spirit and is mentioned as one of the 7 spirits of God. “There shall come forth a Rod from the stem of Jesse, And a Branch shall grow out of his roots. THE SPIRIT OF THE LORD shall rest upon Him, THE SPIRIT OF WISDOM and UNDERSTANDING, THE SPIRIT OF COUNSEL and MIGHT, THE SPIRIT OF KNOWLEDGE and of THE FEAR OF THE LORD. HIS DELIGHT IS IN THE FEAR OF THE LORD, And He shall not judge by the sight of His eyes, Nor decide by the hearing of ears; But with righteousness He shall judge the poor, And decide with equity for the meek of the earth; He shall strike the earth with the rod of His mouth, And with the breath of His lips He shall slay the wicked.” Of the 27 times the fear of the Lord is mentioned, 14 of them are in the book of Proverbs, but it’s only mentioned once in the New Testament. “But Barnabas took Saul and brought him to the apostles. And he declared to them how he had seen the Lord on the road, and that He had spoken to him, and how he had preached boldly at Damascus in the name of Jesus. So he was with them at Jerusalem, coming in and going out. And he spoke boldly in the name of the Lord Jesus and disputed against the Hellenists, but they attempted to kill him. When the brethren found out, they brought him down to Caesarea and sent him out to Tarsus. Then the churches throughout all Judea, Galilee, and Samaria had peace and were edified. And walking in THE FEAR OF THE LORD and in the comfort of the Holy Spirit, they were multiplied.”
In the book of Proverbs, the fear of the Lord refers to life, and the beginning of wisdom and knowledge. This to me is very important, especially if Jesus delighted in it. “The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge, But fools despise wisdom and instruction.” “Because they hated knowledge And did not choose the fear of the LORD.” “Then you will understand the fear of the LORD, And find the knowledge of God.” “The fear of the LORD is to hate evil; Pride and arrogance and the evil way And the perverse mouth I hate.” “The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom, And the knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.” “The fear of the LORD prolongs days, But the years of the wicked will be shortened.” In the fear of the LORD there is strong confidence, And His children will have a place of refuge.” “The fear of the LORD is a fountain of life, To turn one away from the snares of death.” “Better is a little with the fear of the LORD, Than great treasure with trouble.” “The fear of the LORD is the instruction of wisdom, And before honor is humility.” “In mercy and truth Atonement is provided for iniquity; And by the fear of the LORD one departs from evil.” “The fear of the LORD leads to life, And he who has it will abide in satisfaction; He will not be visited with evil.” By humility and the fear of the LORD Are riches and honor and life.” “Do not let your heart envy sinners, But be zealous for the fear of the LORD all the day;” After reading all 14, you see how important the fear of the Lord is. We must all give reverence to the Lord all the days of our life. Not just in times of good, but also in hard times as well. By doing so we prove to the entire spirit realm that we love God regardless of the circumstance. Job understood the fear of the Lord even after all was taken away from him. “Then Job arose, tore his robe, and shaved his head; and he fell to the ground and worshiped. And he said: “Naked I came from my mother’s womb, And naked shall I return there. The LORD gave, and the LORD has taken away; Blessed be the name of the LORD.” In all this Job did not sin nor charge God with wrong.” “And to man He said, ‘Behold, the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom, And to depart from evil is understanding.’”
I hope you understand the fear of the Lord. This is something to hold on to and cherish regardless of the circumstances. “Therefore, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.” “Then Peter opened his mouth and said: “In truth I perceive that God shows no partiality. But in every nation whoever fears Him and works righteousness is accepted by Him.” Be blessed, my friends
