When you set your mind on things above, you are keeping your mind in the spirit, heavenly thoughts. This is where life and peace is. The battleground in our lives is in the mind. Who is controlling your thoughts? The news, who I have now called “Fear porn!” The cares of this world or the deceitfulness of riches consume your thoughts making the word of God unfruitful.
Colossians 3:2 Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth. 3 For you died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God.
Romans 8:6 For the mind set on the flesh is death, but the mind set on the Spirit is life and peace,
Mark 4:19 and the cares of this world, the deceitfulness of riches, and the desires for other things entering in choke the word, and it becomes unfruitful.
Your eyes can change your mindset. You see something that you like and you want it. This thing could be destructive in your life, but you still want it. Whatever comes into your mind by what you see or hear will influence you and seep into your heart, changing you. That’s why we are to have nothing to do with this world, it’s all a lie. The truth is in Jesus. He brought us the truth to show us the truth.
1 John 2:16 because all that [is] in the world, the desire of the flesh, and the desire of the eyes, and the vaunting* of life, not is from the Father, but from the world is.
John 14:6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.“
We are those who live by faith and not by sight. Your eyes will deceive you. What you hear will deceive you. If you don’t live by faith in Jesus, what do you really believe? It’s His Name that we put our faith in. When you set your mind on things above, you are setting your mind to live in the spirit. How do I know this? Reading the next couple of verses after to understand what Paul was saying.
2 Corinthians 5:7 For we walk by faith, not by sight.
Romans 1:17 For in it (the gospel) the righteousness of God is revealed from faith to faith; as it is written: “But the righteous one will live by faith.”
Acts 3:16 And His name, through faith in His name, has made this man strong, whom you see and know. Yes, the faith which comes through Him has given him this perfect soundness in the presence of you all.

Ephesians 4:20 But you have not so learned Christ, 21 if indeed you have heard Him and have been taught by Him, as the truth is in Jesus: 22 that you put off, concerning your former conduct, the old man which grows corrupt according to the deceitful lusts, 23 and be renewed in the spirit of your mind, 24 and that you put on the new man which was created according to God, in true righteousness and holiness.
