When I look at the scriptures, I always first look at where it’s located. I noticed before this parable He was talking about the 10 virgins. After this parable, He was talking about separating the sheep from the goats. Does the parable of the talents have anything to do with the other two? Yes, it does! Those who were given the talents went and traded to get more. Interesting that the lazy virgins had to go out and buy more to have oil in their lamps. They were like the ones who buried his talent in the ground. What have you done with what the Lord has given you?
It’s never too late to use what God has given you. Look at 1 Corinthians 12. Each one of us has been given the spirit as we are all baptized into Jesus. “For by one Spirit, we were all baptized into one body––whether Jews or Greeks, whether slaves or free––and have all been made to drink into one Spirit.” What did you do with the spirit He has given you? Did you live from the flesh by burying the spirit or did you live by the spirit? “For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God.” Did you multiply the spirit by giving Him away? Did you operate in any of the 9 gifts of the spirit? Jesus is a life-giving spirit. “And so it is written, “The first man Adam became a living being.” The last Adam became a life–giving spirit.” He gave you life and it more abundantly. “The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.” Did you give life to anyone else as He is in you? “I now rejoice in my sufferings for you, and fill up in my flesh what is lacking in the afflictions of Christ, for the sake of His body, which is the church, of which I became a minister according to the stewardship from God which was given to me for you, to fulfill the word of God, the mystery which has been hidden from ages and from generations, but now has been revealed to His saints. To them God willed to make known what are the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles: which is Christ in you, the hope of glory.”
I pray that the eyes of your understanding be enlightened to this mystery that has been revealed to His saints. Be blessed, my friends
