Before we dive into this, we need to understand what a matter is? The word matter here is from the Hebrew word דָבָר which is dabar. This comes from Strong’s Concordance #H1697 meaning – speech, word. So in other words in Proverbs 25:2 means that it is the glory of God to conceal what His Word means and it’s the glory of the followers of Jesus to search out what His words mean. I am telling you, this might be hard to hear, but some of what you hear in church is not what God has said. The words are twisted to fit a lifestyle.
I do go in my book Fake News in the church in more detail, but I want to give you a glimpse of what I am talking about that God conceal something in His Word and we are to search it out. Let’s take a look at one that is the most used in church to keep churchgoers enslaved to the devil and they don’t even know it. 1 John 1:8 If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. Now how I was taught this is that if you say you have no sin, you are deceiving yourself and the truth is not in you. Sounds right, right? But I have been taught is that this means that you are a sinner because if you say that you have no sin, you are lying to yourself and the truth is not in you. So in other words the truth is in sin, right? Do you see how they twist the first part of the verse and yet leave the rest in tack? In other words, some churches teach that you are a sinner, you are not deceived and now the truth is in you as you are a sinner.
This is how the devil deceives people. He gets them to look at something without seeing the whole picture. You need to search out the truth and the whole truth not part truths.
There is a hidden gem in 1 John 1 that is concealed. It’s actually found in the verse before. 1 John 1:7 But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin. If the blood of Jesus cleanses us of all sin, how then does some of these churches still call themselves sinners? Was the blood of Jesus not enough for them? Do they still believe they are forgiven by the blood? That is why it’s puzzling. I have heard some say that it’s because we are still in the flesh and the flesh is sinful. I guess they have never read; Romans 8:8 So then, those who are in the flesh cannot please God; or Romans 6:11 Likewise you also, reckon yourselves to be dead indeed to sin, but alive to God in Christ Jesus our Lord. One thing that blows my mind in this mentality is how are these people are denying themselves? If you are still calling yourself a sinner how are you following Jesus when the first prerequisite is to deny yourself? Luke 9:23 Then He said to them all, “If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow Me. 24 For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake will save it.
Now you understand that things won’t be just given to you. You need to search it out for yourself. I am going to make a suggestion to you that I heard from the Lord. Why don’t you ask Him to help you in your search. He loves this! He is the One who want to guide you, direct you into all truth.
