This is part of a verse that the church today uses to claim that we are all sinners.. This is what the verse says, 1 John 1:8 If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. I find it fascinating that because you are born of flesh, you are a sinner. As it is written in Romans 5:12 Therefore, just as through one man sin entered the world, and death through sin, and thus death spread to all men, because all sinned. I want to look at all of this by asking the two questions that was asked in the day of Pentecost. What does this mean? and what shall I do?
What does this mean?
This means that everyone who is born of the flesh has sinned, as Adam sinned, so everyone has sinned. As it is written in Romans 3:23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. This is another verse that the church refers to drive their point that we are all sinners. Have you noticed that all these scripture are referring to those who have not accepted Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior? The reason why I say that is because of the other verses that are around that verse (click here). When reading the Bible, you must ask yourself, what does this mean? What is the writer trying to say to me? Do the other scriptures where this is written collaborate with this train of thought? Does this train of thought put me in place of condemnation? Is there any forgiveness of sins?
Well, lets look at this first verse that started in this blog. The verse before 1 John 1:8 is 1 John 1:7 But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin. Hold on. So the blood cleanses you of all sin and yet the next verse talks about if you say you have no sin. OK, so the blood cleanses you of all sin but if you say you have no sin. This sounds to me like if you have no need for the blood because you have not sinned. I don’t need this forgiveness. I don’t need Jesus blood. This makes perfect sense. If we say that we have no sin (no need for the blood), we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. Those who say they are sinners, are not walking in the light as He is in the light and don’t have fellowship with Jesus Christ. What does Jesus have to do with sin?
Now I want to look at Romans 5:12. I have heard someone say that if a verse starts with with word therefore, you want to know why it’s therefore. Romans 5:10 For if when we were enemies we were reconciled to God through the death of His Son, much more, having been reconciled, we shall be saved by His life. 11 And not only that, but we also rejoice in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received the reconciliation. You have reconciled to Jesus? But I want you to look at, you are a sinner, not being reconciled! Romans 5:15 But the free gift is not like the offense. For if by the one man’s offense many died, much more the grace of God and the gift by the grace of the one Man, Jesus Christ, abounded to many. Romans 5:13-14
What shall I do?
First thing you must do is get born again. Water baptism is a baptism of repentance which is a public declaration that you are asking to be forgiven for your sins. Once you are baptized, you are born into Jesus and Father remembers your sins no more. The church doesn’t teach this but I will prove this is so. When David sinned by sleeping with Bathsheba, the wife of Uriah the Hittite, and he killed Uriah by placing him in the front of the battle so he may be killed. Nathan the Prophet was sent by Father to talk to David and exposed this sin. David confesses his sin before Nathan and the child died that David and Bathsheba had conceived together. Father remembered this sin no more.
David sinned again by numbering the people which was counted as sin but once he repented, that was remembered no more. After David had passed away, all the Kings of Israel and Judah were compared to David as David followed Father whole heartily. These sins where never brought up again. That was the Old Covenant, now you are in a New Covenant which Father remembers our sins no more as well. It’s written in Jeremiah 31, Hebrews 8 and Hebrews 10. Interesting how God never remembers your sins anymore but man does. You are to grow up into Christ. If you can’t show mercy, how then can Father show you mercy? As Jesus said, ” go and learn what this means, ‘I desire mercy and not sacrifice.'” Matthew 9:13 which was quoting from Hosea 6:6. So you are no longer a sinner but the Righteousness of God in Christ Jesus.
