Now not too long ago I wrote a blog on Baptism, Is there one or two?. I mentioned that when Jesus was baptized, there were two baptisms that He endured. The first John baptized unto repentance and God baptized Him in the Spirit. Well, Father just proved this to me as there was two.

Some religious people say there is just one baptism. Jesus went into the water and when He came out, He got the Holy Spirit so that’s one baptism. That is what the wisdom of men teaches but this isn’t what really happened. Let’s look at the scriptures.

John Baptizes Jesus with Water – God Baptizes Jesus with Spirit

Matthew 3:13 Then Jesus came from Galilee to John at the Jordan to be baptized by him. 14 And John tried to prevent Him, saying, “I need to be baptized by You, and are You coming to me?” 15 But Jesus answered and said to him, “Permit it to be so now, for thus it is fitting for us to fulfill all righteousness.” Then he allowed Him. 16 When He had been baptized, Jesus came up immediately from the water; and behold, the heavens were opened to Him, and He saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and alighting upon Him. 17 And suddenly a voice came from heaven, saying, “This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.”

Now you can perceive this as one baptism but John here isn’t the one baptizing Jesus with the Spirit of God. John said, Matthew 3:11 I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance, but He who is coming after me is mightier than I, whose sandals I am not worthy to carry. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire. So John’s baptism was of water not of the Spirit. God baptized Jesus as the Spirit of God came from Heaven as the Heavens opened and descended as a dove. Now there is a verse that proves that there was two baptisms here. There are incidents in scripture where there are two separate baptisms that occurred. But this one particular verse stood out. Now I know this verse off by heart, yet it was the Holy Spirit who connected this for me. Acts 10:38 how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power, who went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with Him. So God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power? When did He do that? Matthew 3:16-17, God anointed Jesus when He came out of the water and said “This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.” I have read that verse hundreds of times (Acts 10:38) but on Sunday when I read that verse, Holy Spirit reminded me that this is when Jesus came out of the water.

So what happened right after Jesus came out of the wilderness? He began to preach. What did He preach? Luke 4:16 So He came to Nazareth, where He had been brought up. And as His custom was, He went into the synagogue on the Sabbath day, and stood up to read. 17 And He was handed the book of the prophet Isaiah. And when He had opened the book, He found the place (read out of order) where it was written: (quoting from Isaiah 61:1-3)

18 The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me,
Because He has anointed Me

To preach the gospel to the poor;
He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted,
To proclaim liberty to the captives
And recovery of sight to the blind,
To set at liberty those who are oppressed;
19 To proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord.

20 Then He closed the book, and gave it back to the attendant and sat down. And the eyes of all who were in the synagogue were fixed on Him. 21 And He began to say to them, “Today this Scripture is fulfilled in your hearing.”

He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches spoken to all the 7 churches in the Book of Revelation
