One morning when I got up, a thought came to me that when I die I will only be separated from my body but I won’t die. I meditated on this and had to look in the scriptures regarding this. I wanted to make sure that this thought came from the Lord and not from the enemy as Paul wrote 2 Corinthians 10:For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds, casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ. Our thoughts are very important, and as you grow in the Lord, the enemy will try to inject thoughts to try to steer you away from the Lord.

So as I was meditating on this, I heard that it’s your spirit that leaves and your flesh returns to the dust of the earth. I do know that we are a 3 part being. Spirit, soul and body. Interesting that the world mentions these backwards. Body, soul and spirit. This is done on purpose. The world wants you flesh dominant and not spirit dominant. When God gave dominion over the earth to Adam, this was done in the spirit. You can read it here in Genesis 1:28. When God created Adam from the dust of the earth was done in Genesis 2:7. When we decide that we are a spirit being first and are born of the spirit, we get to be conformed back to the image of God.

When we pass away, it’s our spirit leaves. This depends if you are one with Jesus is to where you go. Let me explain. Jesus used a fleshly example to explain a spiritual concept. In Matthew 19 Jesus said And He answered and said to them, “Have you not read that He who made them at the beginning ‘made them male and female,’ and said, ‘For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh’? So then, they are no longer two but one flesh. Therefore what God has joined together, let not man separate.” So two become one in the flesh so can two become one in the spirit. Paul wrote this in 1 Corinthians 6:15 Do you not know that your bodies are members of Christ? Shall I then take the members of Christ and make them members of a harlot? Certainly not! 16 Or do you not know that he who is joined to a harlot is one body with her? For “the two,” He says, “shall become one flesh.” 17 But he who is joined to the Lord is one spirit with Him. Looks like that if you are born of the spirit you are one in the spirit with Jesus. Jesus even prayed that this would happen. John 17:20 “I do not pray for these alone, but also for those who will believe in Me through their word; 21 that they all may be one, as You, Father, are in Me, and I in You; that they also may be one in Us, that the world may believe that You sent Me. This is why Paul said that the Spirit that raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you

Knowing that you can’t be separated from God is a key to live this life in the Spirit. When you live a life of thanksgiving changes how you see everything in life. This is why Jesus gave me a life verse to always live by. The verses are 1 Thessalonians 5:16 Rejoice always, 17 pray without ceasing, 18 in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you. When you live like this what are you doing? You are submitting to God and resisting the devil and with this he has to flee as he doesn’t want to be around when God shows up. Giving thanks when things are easy but giving thanks when things are tough is how the enemy challenges you to see how you will react. Take a look at how Job reacted when he was challenged. My question is, how can you Love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, all your mind and all your strength and still ask the question why?
