The second in this series is the breastplate of righteousness. Let’s examine this to see if this is in the Old Testament. Of course it is. Isaiah 59:17 For He put on righteousness as a breastplate, And a helmet of salvation on His head; He put on the garments of vengeance for clothing, And was clad with zeal as a cloak. As the Lord has been speaking to me about the armor, there is a common theme. The armor is spiritual and it is light. Very early in my walk with the Lord, He spoke to me and mentioned that if I call myself a sinner, you can never put on the breastplate of righteousness. This concept has stuck with me.
The righteousness that you are putting on is not yours, but Jesus’. IT’S A FREE GIFT, but you have to accept this gift. Romans 5:17 For if by the one man’s offense death reigned through the one, much more those who receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness will reign in life through the One, Jesus Christ. Sadly, may don’t want this free gift, but rather would like to keep sin instead. Jesus told us that you can’t serve two masters. Matthew 6:24 “No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will be loyal to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon. In other words, you either serve God who is spirit or you serve mammon which is wealth representing flesh and sin. Romans 6:17 But God be thanked that though you were slaves of sin, yet you obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine to which you were delivered. 18 And having been set free from sin, you became slaves of righteousness. Now do you understand that a sinner or one who confesses their a sinner cannot be a slave (follower) of righteousness. Many haven’t got the understanding that Jesus is the King of Righteousness. The Kingdom of God is righteousness. Psalm 45:6 Your throne, O God, is forever and ever;
A scepter of righteousness is the scepter of Your kingdom.
7 You love righteousness and hate wickedness;
Therefore God, Your God, has anointed You
With the oil of gladness more than Your companions.
Righteousness is light. Psalm 37:6 He shall bring forth your righteousness as the light, And your justice as the noonday. Ephesians 5:9 (for the fruit of the light consists in all goodness, righteousness, and truth). Romans 13:12 The night is far spent, the day is at hand. Therefore let us cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armor of light. 13 Let us walk properly, as in the day, not in revelry and drunkenness, not in lewdness and lust, not in strife and envy. 14 But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh, to fulfill its lusts.
As we go further into this series, you will see that the armor wasn’t made for a warrior, but a priest. Matthew 26:48 Now His betrayer had given them a sign, saying, “Whomever I kiss, He is the One; seize Him.” 49 Immediately he went up to Jesus and said, “Greetings, Rabbi!” and kissed Him. 50 But Jesus said to him, “Friend, why have you come?” Then they came and laid hands on Jesus and took Him. 51 And suddenly, one of those who were with Jesus stretched out his hand and drew his sword, struck the servant of the high priest, and cut off his ear. 52 But Jesus said to him, “Put your sword in its place, for all who take the sword will perish by the sword. 53 Or do you think that I cannot now pray to My Father, and He will provide Me with more than twelve legions of angels?
