When you have the helmet of salvation on, it protects you from any thoughts that try to grab a hold of you. The enemy uses thoughts to try to change your heart. Paul understood this very well. You can tell that Paul was in battle with these thoughts when he wrote these verses. 2 Corinthians 12:7 Because of the extraordinary greatness of the revelations, for this reason, to keep me from exalting myself, there was given to me a thorn in the flesh, a messenger of Satan to torment me—to keep me from exalting myself! Concerning this I pleaded with the Lord three times that it might leave me. And He has said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for power is perfected in weakness.” Most gladly, therefore, I will rather boast about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may dwell in me. 10 Therefore I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in distresses, in persecutions, in difficulties, in behalf of Christ; for when I am weak, then I am strong. Paul describes this earlier in that book as well. 2 Corinthians 10:1 Now I, Paul, myself am pleading with you by the meekness and gentleness of Christ—who in presence am lowly among you, but being absent am bold toward you. But I beg you that when I am present I may not be bold with that confidence by which I intend to be bold against some, who think of us as if we walked according to the flesh3 For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war according to the flesh. For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholdscasting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christand being ready to punish all disobedience when your obedience is fulfilled. Those who step out for Christ and believe they are still sinners, they are of the flesh, will not do well. You can’t come against a spirit being in the flesh.

There is a very important passage in the Old Testament that will help with the situations that will arise when these thoughts come against you. Isaiah 54:17 No weapon formed against you shall prosper, And every tongue which rises against you in judgment You shall condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord, And their righteousness is from Me,” Says the Lord. You have to see yourself separate from the lie. Sin entrapped Adam and Eve and it wants you. The devil gave them a thought and they acted on it. Genesis 4:7 If you do well, will you not be accepted? And if you do not do well, sin lies at the door. And its desire i ]for you, but you should rule over it.” Seeing yourself apart from sin is how you resist the devil. By doing so , you are to submitting to God.
