When we dig into the scriptures, we notice that many who want the power and exalted themselves didn’t do very well. The first one that comes to mind is King Nebuchadnezzar. He exalted himself that his kingdom was done by his hands, but the Lord brought him down until he learned that God rules over men. Daniel 4: 28 All this came upon King Nebuchadnezzar. 29 At the end of the twelve months he was walking about the royal palace of Babylon. 30 The king spoke, saying, “Is not this great Babylon, that I have built for a royal dwelling by my mighty power and for the honor of my majesty?” 31 While the word was still in the king’s mouth, a voice fell from heaven: “King Nebuchadnezzar, to you it is spoken: the kingdom has departed from you! 32 And they shall drive you from men, and your dwelling shall be with the beasts of the field. They shall make you eat grass like oxen; and seven times shall pass over you, until you know that the Most High rules in the kingdom of men, and gives it to whomever He chooses.”
Another one is King Herod. Look at what happened to him when he exalted himself. Some were even saying he was a god not a man. Acts 12:21 So on a set day Herod, arrayed in royal apparel, sat on his throne and gave an oration to them. 22 And the people kept shouting, “The voice of a god and not of a man!” 23 Then immediately an angel of the Lord struck him, because he did not give glory to God. And he was eaten by worms and died. 24 But the word of God grew and multiplied.
Now let’s look at our King. Jesus could have done many of things against people and people would have understood, but He didn’t. He humbled Himself and made Himself of no reputation. He took upon Himself what man did to separate themselves from God. This is why it is written; 1 Corinthians 13:4 Love is patient, love is kind, it is not jealous; love does not brag, it is not arrogant. 5 It does not act disgracefully, it does not seek its own benefit; it is not provoked, does not keep an account of a wrong suffered, 6 it does not rejoice in unrighteousness, but rejoices with the truth; 7 it keeps every confidence, it believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. 8 Love never fails. This is what true love looks like. There are very few instances today of this love, very few. Interesting that this is why the church was created. Not for herself to build little camps all around like Baptist, Anglicans, Catholics etc.. When you read the scriptures there is one church in each city to go against the principalities and powers to influence people in the way of the Lord. Jesus did this with love. Many cities rejected Jesus so the principalities and powers convinced people to reject Jesus. This is the struggle that we are in.
