Jesus died on the cross as to the accusation that He was blaspheming. The religious people of the day didn’t like that Jesus was saying that He is the Son of God. What they were accusing Him of, is what he is. Now while Jesus was on the cross, I don’t know if you noticed that it became dark for three hours. Matthew 27:45 Now from the sixth hour until the ninth hour there was darkness over all the land. 46 And about the ninth hour Jesus cried out with a loud voice, saying, “Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani?” that is, “My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me?” What I want to look at is why He said, “My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me?”

During the whole time Jesus walked on the earth, have you ever heard Him speak like this? Jesus was always preaching about the Kingdom and at one point He rebuked Phillip for not knowing that Father was in Him. John 14:8 Philip said to Him, “Lord, show us the Father, and it is sufficient for us.” Jesus said to him, “Have I been with you so long, and yet you have not known Me, Philip? He who has seen Me has seen the Father; so how can you say, ‘Show us the Father’? 10 Do you not believe that I am in the Father, and the Father in Me? The words that I speak to you I do not speak on My own authority; but the Father who dwells in Me does the works. That statement Jesus did on the cross is unusual. For those who don’t know, this is the first time the Jesus was separated from Father. That is what sin does, it separates you from Father.

The another point i want to make is when Jesus was praying about taking this cup away from Me. Luke 22:41 And He was withdrawn from them about a stone’s throw, and He knelt down and prayed, 42 saying, “Father, if it is Your will, take this cup away from Me; nevertheless not My will, but Yours, be done.” Many people think that Jesus was praying to Father so he wouldn’t have to go to the cross. That’s what you would think if this happened to you. I beg to differ. I believe that going to the cross was a joy for Him. Hebrews 12:2 looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. If it was a joy for Him to go to the cross, why was Jesus praying like that? I want to tell you that this grieved Him so much that He would be separated from Father. He was resisting sin to bloodshed but the church today is open to sin as I hear many say that, “I am a sinner saved by grace.” Sad that these people were saved from sin in which Jesus paid the price for, but they are still confess they’re sinners.

I want to leave you with a great song. I love this video, this just works together. Enjoy
