Let’s look at how Jesus reacted to the woman caught in adultery and how you would react.

The Scribes and Pharisees brought to Jesus a woman who had committed adultery. This is a test to see what He would do. You who are reading this are also being tested to see how would you react. Jesus never accused the woman of adultery or blamed her for such a thing. Today, many in the church would accuse this woman as a sinner as the the Scribes and Pharisees did. When you accuse someone being a sinner, you empower sin over your own life. Remember what is written; Matthew 7:12 Therefore, whatever you want men to do to you, do also to them, for this is the Law and the Prophets.

Jesus understood that if you accuse someone of anything, you empower that very thing over your life. This is why you are not to complain like the Israelites did in the wilderness. I wrote a blog on this very thing called Shall We Play A Game Of Chess.

One thing I do love about Jesus is when they asked Him a question, He answered with a question. Pay attention to this in the verses when they were testing Jesus. It’s absolutely brilliant! When they confronted Jesus with the woman who committed adultery, He responded to her by saying, “Neither do I condemn you; go and sin no more.” This is exactly how mercy is to react. If you can’t forgive others of being a sinner, how can your heavenly Father forgive you of your sins? Matthew 6:14 “For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. 15 But if you do not forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.

Zealous Sign Up

Now see for yourself how Jesus reacted. Also pay attention to how the woman answered Jesus. She called Him sir, not Lord. This tells me that she did not know who Jesus was, but she knows now who had mercy on her and wasn’t the religious people.
