Do you ever wonder why Jesus came? Why would Father send Jesus here on earth? As Christmas is just around the corner, I wanted to look at this. What is the purpose of this? Is there more than what I have been told? Let’s take a look at this. You will get the understanding for the reason why He came.
There are those who think that Jesus came to take us back to Heaven. These are those who only think of themselves. This is a self-centered thinking which has been taught by the world. But there are those who have been chosen to proclaim this Good News for all the world to hear. Not everybody wants this Good News but I want to share this with you.
The reason Jesus came started in Genesis 1:26 Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.” I don’t know if you noticed this before but God made man from the dust of the earth after He made man in His Image. Genesis 2:7 And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living being. The Image of God is not flesh but Spirit.
Now we know that Adam ate from the tree and sinned against God. God said that if you eat from the tree you will die but Adam didn’t fall over dead. So what died? God’s Image died. I will prove this to you and I will show you the real reason why Jesus came.
After Adam had sinned, he had three sons. Cain, Abel and Seth. Cain killed his brother Abel. But I want to talk about Seth. In the genealogy of Jesus, Jesus came through Seth. What I find interesting about Seth is that he was created in the image of Adam (sin), not God. Genesis 5:3 And Adam lived one hundred and thirty years, and begot a son in his own likeness, after his image, and named him Seth. Paul wrote about this very issue regarding the image. 1 Corinthians 15:45 And so it is written, “The first man Adam became a living being.” The last Adam became a life-giving spirit.46 However, the spiritual is not first, but the natural, and afterward the spiritual. 47 The first man was of the earth, made of dust; the second Man is the Lord from heaven. 48 As was the man of dust, so also are those who are made of dust; and as is the heavenly Man, so also are those who are heavenly. 49 And as we have borne the image of the man of dust, we shall also bear the image of the heavenly Man.
Do you see why you need to be born again? Jesus said John 3:6 That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. 7 Do not marvel that I said to you, ‘You must be born again.’ 8 The wind blows where it wishes, and you hear the sound of it, but cannot tell where it comes from and where it goes. So is everyone who is born of the Spirit. This is the very thing that was lost, the Image of God. Jesus best explained this in the Good Samaritan. Luke 10:30 Then Jesus answered and said: “A certain man (Adam) went down from Jerusalem (Peace) to Jericho (Curse), and fell among thieves, who stripped him of his clothing, wounded him, and departed, leaving him half dead (Spiritually dead, physically alive). Jesus was born again in the Spirit just as He was coming out of the water. Father baptized Him. Many believe that John baptized in the Spirit but he didn’t.
Let’s tie this with a nice bow for Christmas. Romans 8:29 For whom He foreknew, He also predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son, that He might be the firstborn among many brethren. Now you know why Jesus told His disciples (are you a disciple?) Matthew 10:7 And as you go, preach, saying, ‘The kingdom of heaven is at hand.’ 8 Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out demons. Freely you have received, freely give. This is why Jesus told His disciples that when you pray Matthew 6:10 Your kingdom come. Your will be done On earth as it is in heaven. So we see that the reason Jesus came was to bring us back to the Image of God so He can walk with us here on earth.
Merry Christmas everyone. Numbers 6:24 “The Lord bless you and keep you;
25 The Lord make His face shine upon you,
And be gracious to you;
26 The Lord lift up His countenance upon you,
And give you peace.” ’
