Many don’t understand the fear of the Lord. If I was to tell you that Jesus’ delight was in the fear of the Lord, would that surprise you? The prophet Isaiah mentions this is Isaiah 11. Isaiah 11:1 There shall come forth a Rod from the stem of Jesse,
And a Branch shall grow out of his roots.
2 The Spirit of the Lord shall rest upon Him,
The Spirit of wisdom and understanding,
The Spirit of counsel and might,
The Spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the Lord. 3 His delight is in the fear of the Lord,
And He shall not judge by the sight of His eyes
It seems like, without the fear of the Lord, how do you begin your walk with Him? The reason I mention it is what the word says about the fear of the Lord is the beginning of.
Proverbs 1:7 The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge,
But fools despise wisdom and instruction.
Proverbs 2:1 My son, if you receive my words,
And treasure my commands within you,
2 So that you incline your ear to wisdom,
And apply your heart to understanding;
3 Yes, if you cry out for discernment,
And lift up your voice for understanding,
4 If you seek her as silver,
And search for her as for hidden treasures;
5 Then you will understand the fear of the Lord,
And find the knowledge of God.
Proverbs 8:13 The fear of the Lord is to hate evil;
Pride and arrogance and the evil way
And the perverse mouth I hate.
Proverbs 9:10 The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom,
And the knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.
Proverbs 10:27 The fear of the Lord prolongs days,
But the years of the wicked will be shortened.
Proverbs 14:26 In the fear of the Lord there is strong confidence,
And His children will have a place of refuge.
Proverbs 14:27 The fear of the Lord is a fountain of life,
To turn one away from the snares of death.
Proverbs 19:23 The fear of the Lord leads to life,
And he who has it will abide in satisfaction;
He will not be visited with evil.
I think you be getting the just of the fear of the Lord. Without it, how can He guide you into all truth? Isaiah 11:1-3 that you read earlier is the seven spirits of God. Spirit of the Lord, The Spirit of wisdom, The Spirit of understanding, The Spirit of counsel, The Spirit of might, The Spirit of knowledge and The Spirit of the fear of the Lord. Without the fear of the Lord , how does the Lord instruct you? Proverbs 15:33 The fear of the Lord is the instruction of wisdom,
And before honor is humility.
Having a reverence for God in everything you do and say is walking in the fear of the Lord. Doing what is right in His eyes, not yours.
