I was going to blog on something else but the Lord want me to write about this. This is for someone who reads this. The one thing I Love to do is get the understanding why people think the way they do and does the Bible prove what they are saying. I just don’t do one liners to prove my point, I want to know what the writer is saying and why did they say that. This topic is no exception.
Let’s first look at where this comes from. Romans 10:9 that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. No where does it say that you need to say a prayer. This is one of many that the church uses the wisdom of men and makes a doctrine out of it. It’s a tradition in the church for people to say the sinners prayer every week. What does it say before and after this verse. Romans 10:5 For Moses writes about the righteousness which is of the law, “The man who does those things shall live by them.” 6 But the righteousness of faith speaks in this way, “Do not say in your heart, ‘Who will ascend into heaven?’ ” (that is, to bring Christ down from above) 7 or, “ ‘Who will descend into the abyss?’ ” (that is, to bring Christ up from the dead). 8 But what does it say? “The word is near you, in your mouth and in your heart” (that is, the word of faith which we preach). What does it say after Romans 10:9. Romans 10:10 For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. (confession? Is this the Baptism of repentance?) 11 For the Scripture says, “Whoever believes on Him will not be put to shame.” 12 For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek, for the same Lord over all is rich to all who call upon Him. 13 For “whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.” There is no where does it say that you say the sinners prayer
One word in the previous paragraph I want to talk about is the word saved. The word appears in verse 9 and 13. It’s the Greek word sōzō (Strongs G4982) which means to save, i.e. deliver or protect (literally or figuratively):—heal, preserve, save (self), do well, be (make) whole. This does not mean about going to Heaven.
Lets take a look where else this is said and see what actually happens. It’s in Acts 16. Acts 16:25 But at midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the prisoners were listening to them. 26 Suddenly there was a great earthquake, so that the foundations of the prison were shaken; and immediately all the doors were opened and everyone’s chains were loosed. 27 And the keeper of the prison, awaking from sleep and seeing the prison doors open, supposing the prisoners had fled, drew his sword and was about to kill himself. 28 But Paul called with a loud voice, saying, “Do yourself no harm, for we are all here.” 29 Then he called for a light, ran in, and fell down trembling before Paul and Silas. 30 And he brought them out and said, “Sirs, what must I do to be saved?” 31 So they said, “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved, you and your household.” So according to the church today, Paul and Silas should have the jailer say the sinner’s prayer. But they don’t.
Let’s take a look and see what happened. Act 16:32 Then they spoke the word of the Lord to him and to all who were in his house. 33 And he took them the same hour of the night and washed their stripes. And immediately he and all his family were baptized. 34 Now when he had brought them into his house, he set food before them; and he rejoiced, having believed in God with all his household. So when people believe on the Lord Jesus they are to be baptized. This is what Paul and Silas did. No mention of a sinners prayer. It’s a confession from your heart for what you have done, asking forgiveness. then you get baptized. What’s interesting is that every time i hear this sinners prayer, no where have i heard about baptism. This contradicts what Jesus said in Matthew 28:18 “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. 19 Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Amen. The Great Commission isn’t about saying a prayer, it’s about baptizing people into the Kingdom. This is to fulfill all righteousness. Righteousness is the Kingdom of God. Romans 14:17 for the kingdom of God is not eating and drinking, but righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit. Hebrews 1:8 “Your throne, O God, is forever and ever; A scepter of righteousness is the scepter of Your kingdom
