Colossians 3:5 Therefore put to death your members which are on the earth: fornication, uncleanness, passion, evil desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry. 6 Because of these things the wrath of God is coming upon the sons of disobedience, 7 in which you yourselves once walked when you lived in them.
Lets look at every member that you are to put to death and what that word means. 1) fornication – Greek word porneia – Strong’s Concordance G4202 which means
- illicit sexual intercourse
- adultery, fornication, homosexuality, lesbianism, intercourse with animals etc.
- sexual intercourse with close relatives; Lev. 18
- sexual intercourse with a divorced man or woman; Mk. 10:11-12
2) Uncleanness – Greek word – akatharsia – Strong’s Concordance G167 which means
- uncleanness
- physical
- in a moral sense: the impurity of lustful, luxurious, profligate living
- of impure motives
3) Passion – Greek word pathos – Strong’s Concordance G3806 which means
- whatever befalls one, whether it be sad or joyous
- spec. a calamity, mishap, evil, affliction
- a feeling which the mind suffers
- an affliction of the mind, emotion, passion
- passionate deed
- used by the Greeks in either a good or bad sense
- in the NT in a bad sense, depraved passion, vile passions
4) evil desire is in two parts 1st– Greek word kakos Strong’s Concordance G2556 which means
- of a bad nature
- not such as it ought to be
- of a mode of thinking, feeling, acting
- base, wrong, wicked
- troublesome, injurious, pernicious, destructive, baneful /2nd – Greek word epithymia Strong’s Concordance G1939 which means desire, craving, longing, desire for what is forbidden, lust
5) covetousness – Greek word pleonexia Strong’s Concordance G4124 which means greedy desire to have more, covetousness, avarice
6) idolatry – Greek word eidĹŤlolatria Strong’s Concordance G1495 which means
- the worship of false gods, idolatry
- of the formal sacrificial feats held in honor of false gods
- of avarice, as a worship of Mammon
- in the plural, the vices springing from idolatry and peculiar to it
Do you walk in any of this? I pray that you don’t as you won’t inherit the Kingdom of God. Everyone makes their own choices. If you want to inherit God’s Kingdom then you must live by Kingdom principles, not yours. He has spelled it out for all the people.
