People don’t realize that Love is the GREATEST weapon we have to overcome evil. Every avenue of your life will be tested to see if you really Love God. This Love for God is the first commandment that we are live by. Mark 12:29 Jesus answered him, “The first of all the commandments is: ‘Hear, O Israel, the Lord our God, the Lord is one. 30 And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength.’ This is the first commandment.” If you can’t Love God with your entire being how then can you Love your neighbor as yourself?.
Now Jesus used His Love for God to combat satan during the three temptations. Satan knew that if he could pull Jesus away from Loving God, he would have victory. Let’s look at all three temptations and see Jesus’ Love for God. Matthew 4:1 Then Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil. 2 And when He had fasted forty days and forty nights, afterward He was hungry. 3 Now when the tempter came to Him, he said, “If You are the Son of God, command that these stones become bread.” 4 But He answered and said, “It is written, ‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.’ ” You notice that satan temps Jesus when He is hungry? Satan knew that if Jesus was the Son of God that He could turn stones into bread. I am being reminded that this is like today. Those who go around and exercise Jesus Authority to forgive sins by healing people would get asked a simulator question. If you are a son of God heal this person? It’s the Name of Jesus that heals and faith in that Name. It’s His Love for people. When a question like that is asked, there is no Love.
The second temptation, Matthew 4:5 Then the devil took Him up into the holy city, set Him on the pinnacle of the temple, 6 and said to Him, “If You are the Son of God, throw Yourself down. For it is written:‘ He shall give His angels charge over you,’ and, ‘In their hands they shall bear you up, Lest you dash your foot against a stone.’ ” 7 Jesus said to him, “It is written again, ‘You shall not tempt the Lord your God.’ ” So you see here that satan temps Jesus to throw Himself down and uses the Word of God against Him which is in Psalm 91. Jesus’ Love for God is revealed by not tempting God with this.
The third temptation, Matthew 4:8 Again, the devil took Him up on an exceedingly high mountain, and showed Him all the kingdoms of the world and their glory. 9 And he said to Him, “All these things I will give You if You will fall down and worship me.” 10 Then Jesus said to him, “Away with you, Satan! For it is written, ‘You shall worship the Lord your God, and Him only you shall serve.’ ” Satan wanted Jesus to worship him by giving Him the things of this world. Jesus Loves His Father that He will only worship God.
Now let me show you how satan convinced Adam and Eve that if God really loves you, why then would He tell you not to eat from the tree? You would then be just like God. Satan has them question God’s love for them. Genesis 3:1 Now the serpent was more cunning than any beast of the field which the Lord God had made. And he said to the woman, “Has God indeed said, ‘You shall not eat of every tree of the garden’?” 2 And the woman said to the serpent, “We may eat the fruit of the trees of the garden; 3 but of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God has said, ‘You shall not eat it, nor shall you touch it, lest you die.’ ” 4 Then the serpent said to the woman, “You will not surely die. 5 For God knows that in the day you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.” 6 So when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree desirable to make one wise, she took of its fruit and ate. She also gave to her husband with her, and he ate. 7 Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together and made themselves coverings. Satan was successful to separate Adam and Eve from God’s love by disobeying what He has said. So we see that sin separates us from God’s love. I find it fascinating that so called born again believers confess that they are still separate from God by calling themselves sinners, sinner saved by Grace or have a sin nature.
My own personal situation is a great example of this. My wife and I have been separated for about 6 years now. I still call her my wife as there was a situation where Jesus was guarding my heart and He said to me “your wife.” I have had friends and family members tell me that i should see other women but my heart says NO! How can I sin against my Father by doing such an evil thing. I wouldn’t be sinning in men’s eyes but in God’s eyes. The Lord has both told me and showed me that my wife and I will be back together again. In situations like this, you really learn not to live by site but by faith. There is nothing that can separate you from God’s Love but you. I hope this blesses you as this has blessed me. This puts Love in a different perspective.
