There are many who seem to think that the sword of the spirit, which is the Word of God is the Bible. Well, it is not! Jesus is the Word of God and what comes out of His mouth is the sword of the spirit.
The sword is first not physical, but spiritual. That is why it is of the spirit. Those who are of the flesh, or confess they are of the flesh cannot use the sword of the spirit. Those who are of the spirit use the sword easily as it comes from the spirit. I am trying to lay some ground work here to show you that the sword isn’t here to beat up on people. Many people have done this and hindered those who are preaching the gospel. What the purpose of the sword is to expose and remove the lie of sin. Those who operate with this sword realize that they are using the sword even with the other person not realizing what is going on. This is how you love on people. You commanding a spirit to leave or the spirit leaving by you just opening your mouth is a effective way to use the sword.
There are other places in the scriptures that mention the sword of the spirit other than Ephesians 6:17. The sword is mentioned in Hebrews 4:12 For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. As we read more example of the sword, you will get the just of the sword and it’s purpose. The next three verses are from the book of the revelation of Jesus Christ. Revelations 1:16 He had in His right hand seven stars, out of His mouth went a sharp two-edged sword, and His countenance was like the sun shining in its strength. Revelation 2:16 Repent, or else I will come to you quickly and will fight against them with the sword of My mouth. Revelation 19:15 Now out of His mouth goes a sharp sword, that with it He should strike the nations. And He Himself will rule them with a rod of iron. He Himself treads the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God. Now do you think the sword of the spirit is the Bible, or the words that come out of your mouth from the spirit?
There are places in the Old Testament that refers to sword of your mouth. Isaiah 11:4 But with righteousness He shall judge the poor, And decide with equity for the meek of the earth; He shall strike the earth with the rod of His mouth, And with the breath of His lips He shall slay the wicked. Isaiah 49:2 And He has made My mouth like a sharp sword; In the shadow of His hand He has hidden Me, And made Me a polished shaft; In His quiver He has hidden Me. Hosea 6:5 Therefore I have hewn them by the prophets, I have slain them by the words of My mouth; And your judgments are like light that goes forth. Do you now understand that your words have power? Proverbs 18:21 Death and life are in the power of the tongue, And those who love it will eat its fruit. The words that we use are to come from your heart. From it flows the issues of life. When words that come against us, we use the sword to condemn those words so they have root in us. Isaiah 54:17 No weapon formed against you shall prosper, And every tongue which rises against you in judgment You shall condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord, And their righteousness is from Me,” Says the Lord.
This whole series on the armor of God was to show you that the armor was created for priests, not warriors. We are called to be priests. 1 Peter 2:9 But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light; Revelation 1:4 John, to the seven churches which are in Asia: Grace to you and peace from Him who is and who was and who is to come, and from the seven Spirits who are before His throne, 5 and from Jesus Christ, the faithful witness, the firstborn from the dead, and the ruler over the kings of the earth. To Him who loved us and washed us from our sins in His own blood, 6 and has made us kings and priests to His God and Father, to Him be glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen. 7 Behold, He is coming with clouds, and every eye will see Him, even they who pierced Him. And all the tribes of the earth will mourn because of Him. Even so, Amen. Revelation 5:9 And they sang a new song, saying: “You are worthy to take the scroll, And to open its seals; For You were slain, And have redeemed us to God by Your blood Out of every tribe and tongue and people and nation, 10 And have made us kings and priests to our God; And we shall reign on the earth.” Be Blessed Friends
