The Lord has asked me to do a series on the Armor of God. Many people don’t even understand this concept. Do you know that Ephesians 6 isn’t the only place where armor is mentioned in the New Testament. Paul mention’s armor in his letter to the Romans. God is light, right? 1 John 1:This is the message which we have heard from Him and declare to you, that God is light and in Him is no darkness at all. In Romans , Paul calls the armor, armor of light. He also refers to the armor as Jesus by telling the Romans to put on Jesus Christ. Romans 13:11 And do this, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep; for now our salvation is nearer than when we first believed. 12 The night is far spent, the day is at hand. Therefore let us cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armor of light13 Let us walk properly, as in the day, not in revelry and drunkenness, not in lewdness and lust, not in strife and envy. 14 But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh, to fulfill its lusts. So we see that the armor is more than it seems.

The first thing that we are to put on is the belt of truth. Jesus is the truth. John 14:Jesus said to him, â€œI am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me. His life here on earth is what everyone is originally created for. Jesus is God’s image. If you are walking just as He walked, then you are walking in His image. Colossians 1:15 He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. 16 For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers. All things were created through Him and for Him17 And He is before all things, and in Him all things consist. Many seem to forget that Jesus is the image of God and when you are following Him, you are following God’s image.

Lets take a look to see if this belt is mentioned in the Old Testament. Isaiah 11:5 Righteousness shall be the belt of His loins, And faithfulness the belt of His waist. It’s interesting that when you are putting on the belt of truth that you are putting on righteousness and faithfulness. Both of these that you are putting on is of the Spirit. Ephesians 5:9 (for the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness, righteousness, and truth). The word Spirit here in that verse above also means light. This makes sense when Paul calls the armor in Romans, the Armor of Light. Jesus spoke about light in this way. Matthew 5:14 â€œYou are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden. 15 Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. 16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven. Faithfulness is a fruit of the Spirit also. Galatians 5:22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness23 gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law.

What the Lord spoke to me a while ago that the Armor of God is not for a warrior, but for a priest. Exodus 28:4 And these are the garments which they shall make: a breastplate, an ephod, a robe, a skillfully woven tunic, a turban, and a sash. So they shall make holy garments for Aaron your brother and his sons, that he may minister to Me as priest. We are called to be a royal priesthood, a holy nation. 1 Peter 2:9 But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light;

The only way you can put on the Armor of God is if you walk in the spirit and not the flesh. We have an enemy who wants to undress you. If you say that you are a sinner, he is undressing you. If you say that there is no one righteous, not one, he is undressing you. You have to walk in the spirit to put God’s armor on as God is spirit. John 4:24 God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth. You have to see yourself as a spirit being. The world teaches you that you are body, soul and a spirit, making our flesh dominant and the spirit last. The Bible says you are first a spirit then a soul and body, making the body last. 1 Thessalonians 5:23 Now may the God of peace Himself sanctify you completely; and may your whole spirit, soul, and body be preserved blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.
