The Image Of God

I have heard everyone say that we are created in God’s image. What if it is not true? What if this is a lie that has been perpetuated for centuries? I believed that we were all created in His image until I came across a verse, and when I read this verse, the Holy Spirit spoke to me about Gods image. Jesus is the first in all creation to be in God’s image. That would mean that Adam was not. As I dug in the scriptures as Holy Spirit was revealing it too me, I discovered Adam was not created in God’s image, Adam was created in Gods likeness. I want to share with you what I discovered.

Colossians 1:13 He has delivered us from the power of darkness and conveyed us into the kingdom of the Son of His love, 14 in whom we have redemption]through His blood, the forgiveness of sins. 15 He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation16 For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers. All things were created through Him and for Him. 17 And He is before all things, and in Him all things consist. 18 And He is the head of the body, the church, who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in all things He may have the preeminence.

As I was looking at this, I went back to Genesis 1:26 to what it said.

Genesis 1:26 Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.”

If you click on “In Our image” and “According to Our likeness“, these are two different Hebrew words. I found that there is a genealogy of Adam. In this genealogy Adam is in God’s likeness, not His image. Seth is in the image of Adam, not God. Click on “Likeness of God” below. Same Hebrew word in Genesis 1:26 for “According to Our likeness.”

Genesis 5:1 This is the book of the genealogy of Adam. In the day that God created man, He made him in the likeness of GodHe created them male and female, and blessed them and called them Mankind in the day they were created. And Adam lived one hundred and thirty years, and begot a son in his own likeness, after his image, and named him Seth. After he begot Seth, the days of Adam were eight hundred years; and he had sons and daughters. So all the days that Adam lived were nine hundred and thirty years; and he died.

As I looked to this even further, Holy Spirit reminded me about the difference between Adam and Jesus. Adam was just a living being, but Jesus is a life-giving spirit. Jesus tells the Samaritan woman that God is looking for worshipers who will worship in spirit and truth. God’s image is spirit.

1 Corinthians 15:40 There are also heavenly bodies and earthly bodies, but the glory of the heavenly is one, and the glory of the earthly is another. 41 There is one glory of the sun, another glory of the moon, and another glory of the stars; for star differs from star in glory. 42 So also is the resurrection of the dead. It is sown a perishable body, it is raised an imperishable body; 43 it is sown in dishonor, it is raised in glory; it is sown in weakness, it is raised in power; 44 it is sown a natural body, it is raised a spiritual body. If there is a natural body, there is also a spiritual body. 45 So also it is written: “The first man, Adam, became a living person.” The last Adam was a life-giving spirit46 However, the spiritual is not first, but the natural; then the spiritual47 The first man is from the earth, earthy; the second man is from heaven. 48 As is the earthy one, so also are those who are earthy; and as is the heavenly one, so also are those who are heavenly. 49 Just as we have borne the image of the earthywe will also bear the image of the heavenly.

John 4:21 Jesus said to her, “Woman, believe Me, the hour is coming when you will neither on this mountain, nor in Jerusalem, worship the Father. 22 You worship what you do not know; we know what we worship, for salvation is of the Jews. 23 But the hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for the Father is seeking such to worship Him24 God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.” 25 The woman said to Him, “I know that Messiah is coming” (who is called Christ). “When He comes, He will tell us all things.” 26 Jesus said to her, “I who speak to you am He.”

This is why the Apostle John tells Nicodemus, “You must be born of water and spirit.”

John 3:5 Jesus answered, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spiritDo not marvel that I said to you, ‘You must be born again.’ The wind blows where it wishes, and you hear the sound of it, but cannot tell where it comes from and where it goes. So is everyone who is born of the Spirit.”

Matthew 3:11 I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance, but He who is coming after me is mightier than I, whose sandals I am not worthy to carry. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire.

That takes care of the inside of the cup (you), what about the outside? You are not just spiritually inside but outside as well. Jesus talked about this by referring it to new wine in new wineskins. What does the spiritual outside look like? It looks like Jesus. Some refer it to the armor of God or the armor of light, but we are to PUT ON the Lord Jesus. Paul refers this in other places as putting on the new man.

Romans 13:11 And do this, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep; for now our salvation is nearer than when we first believed. 12 The night is far spent, the day is at hand. Therefore let us cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armor of light13 Let us walk properly, as in the day, not in revelry and drunkenness, not in lewdness and lust, not in strife and envy. 14 But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh, to fulfill its lusts.

Ephesians 6:10 Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. 11 Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.

Ephesians 4:17 This I say, therefore, and testify in the Lord, that you should no longer walk as the rest of the Gentiles walk, in the futility of their mind18 having their understanding darkened, being alienated from the life of God, because of the ignorance that is in them, because of the blindness of their heart19 who, being past feeling, have given themselves over to lewdness, to work all uncleanness with greediness. 20 But you have not so learned Christ21 if indeed you have heard Him and have been taught by Him, as the truth is in Jesus22 that you put off, concerning your former conduct, the old man which grows corrupt according to the deceitful lusts, 23 and be renewed in the spirit of your mind24 and that you put on the new man which was created according to God, in true righteousness and holiness.

Being born again in the spirit is done by the circumcision of your heart.

Romans 2:25 For circumcision is indeed profitable if you keep the law; but if you are a breaker of the law, your circumcision has become uncircumcision26 Therefore, if an uncircumcised man keeps the righteous requirements of the law, will not his uncircumcision be counted as circumcision27 And will not the physically uncircumcised, if he fulfills the law, judge you who, even with your written code and circumcision, are a transgressor of the law? 28 For he is not a Jew who is one outwardly, nor is circumcision that which is outward in the flesh; 29 but he is a Jew who is one inwardly; and circumcision is that of the heartin the Spirit, not in the letter; whose praise is not from men but from God.

I hope this blesses you as it has blessed me. Be Blessed my friends.
