There are many covenants that God did in the Bible. Most people know of the two covenants which is the Old and New Covenants. I will look at another that people don’t pay attention too as much. This other covenant is just as important to what happens in the natural happens in the Spirit.
The covenant I want to look at is the one between a man and a woman before God which is the marriage covenant. I want to talk about this one in some detail that you may not know or understand. In the marriage covenant, it’s the man who holds the covenant between the two. You may think that they are equal, both hold the covenant. They do but it’s the male in the relationship is the one who has to answer for the relationship. That’s why it is written that a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and they shall become one flesh Genesis 2:24 / Matthew 19:5 / Ephesians 5:31. This is a marriage covenant of the flesh, not Spirit.
Let’s look at Adam and Eve. When Eve ate of the tree and then gave it to Adam, God didn’t come to Eve, He came to Adam first. Even though Eve was the one who ate of the tree first, it was Adam who was responsible for this. 1 Timothy 2:13 For Adam was formed first, then Eve. 14 And Adam was not deceived, but the woman being deceived, fell into transgression. Adam was the one holding the covenant and when you look through the Bible, covenants were made with the men.
The next one I want to look at is Joseph, Mary’s husband. Mary is pregnant by the Holy Spirit but Joseph doesn’t know this. He wanted to put Mary away. But an angel came to Joseph in a dream and told him Matthew 1:20 “Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take to you Mary your wife, for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit. 21 And she will bring forth a Son, and you shall call His name Jesus, for He will save His people from their sins.” God didn’t want this covenant between Joseph and Mary to be broken. Matthew 1:24 Then Joseph, being aroused from sleep, did as the angel of the Lord commanded him and took to him his wife, 25 and did not know her till she had brought forth her firstborn Son. And he called His name Jesus.
As one who has gone through turmoil in my life. i understand now what is going on when it comes to covenant. In my relationship with my wife, I am the one who holds the covenant. No one can break this covenant except me. The lord has called my wife, “your wife”, even though she was with another man. The Bible tells me that I can divorce my wife but my heart tells me NO! There is a place that you can rise above all things. The Lord reminded me of the Book of Hosea where Hosea’s wife left him. He ended up buying her back. I know what’s coming as He has shown me it. My wife and I are separated but Jesus showed me my wife’s place even before she bought it. The time He shown me hasn’t arrived yet but it will come. I am excited for what He wants to do which will bring Glory to His Name. There is no love like His!
We also have a covenant with God which is through Jesus Christ and not His brothers who Mary bore. As a man leaves his father and mother and joined to his wife which is of the flesh, the New Covenant is of the Spirit. When you are One with Jesus, you are One with Him in the Spirit. 1 Corinthians 6:15 Do you not know that your bodies are members of Christ? Shall I then take the members of Christ and make them members of a harlot? Certainly not! 16 Or do you not know that he who is joined to a harlot is one body with her? For “the two,” He says, “shall become one flesh.” 17 But he who is joined to the Lord is one spirit with Him. Now Jesus is the Male in this Covenant and we are all the Bride. To get yourself ready, you first must be born again of Water and Spirit. Then you walk the path of Righteous for His name sake Psalm 23:3. As you do this, your righteous acts continuously prepares yourself for that day. Revelation 19:7 Let us be glad and rejoice and give Him glory, for the marriage of the Lamb has come, and His wife has made herself ready.” 8 And to her it was granted to be arrayed in fine linen, clean and bright, for the fine linen is the righteous acts of the saints.
One thing I have noticed, the Genealogy of Jesus Christ is a list of males. There is a list in Matthew and Luke. Also the twelve tribes of Israel are all the males. Their sister Dinah isn’t mentioned.
This started with me when Jesus mentioned to me regarding Hosea. Then people started coming against me about going after other women. Now I have the understanding of how important a covenant is. If you can’t stand by your word, then your word is worthless. If you can love expecting nothing in return, then you are growing up into Jesus. Matthew 5:44 But I say to you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you, 45 that you may be sons of your Father in heaven; for He makes His sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust. What are the characteristics of love? 1 Corinthians 13:4 Love is patient, love is kind and is not jealous; love does not brag and is not arrogant, 5 does not act unbecomingly; it does not seek its own, is not provoked, does not take into account a wrong suffered, 6 does not rejoice in unrighteousness, but rejoices with the truth; 7 bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.8 Love never fails. Now what is the purpose of the commandment? 1 Timothy 1:5 Now the purpose of the commandment is love from a pure heart, from a good conscience, and from sincere faith. What happens when you are perfected in love as your Heavenly Father is perfect? 1 John 4:18 There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves torment.
This is why in the natural, a wife changes her last name to reflect her husband. She now carries his name. This is why when you are born in the Spirit, you now carry the Name of Jesus. I hope this blessed you as it has blessed me.
He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches spoken to all the 7 churches in the Book of Revelation
